Often: While not everyone who is pregnant has constipation, it's very common. Progesterone, one of the primary hormones of pregnancy, causes your bowels to more more slowly, and that means that more water gets absorbed from your stool, thus making stool harder by the time it reaches your rectum. I like MiraLAX (polyethylene glycol) or generic equivalent for prevention of constipation in pregnancy and when not pregnant.
