Virus: These symptoms are consistent with a viral infection of the upper respiratory tract and usually clear after 5to7 days. If they persist a bacterial sinus infection may be present and is treated with appropriate antibiotics as well as decongestant and irrigation to promote drainage. Worsening cough with fever, chills and sweats call for an exam to check for pneumonia.
