A member asked:

How does gas actually get trapped in your intestines? if gas is lighter than air, shouldn't it be able to easily flow out? what actually stops it?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Gas: Air gets trapped in the intestine from swallowing it and from gases that are byproducts of the abdominal bacteria. The gut has lots of folds and pressure (peristalsis) which keep things moving "forward." gas goes up only if it is unopposed.
