A female asked:
can i take plexus slim with metformin?

Dr. Geoffrey Rutledge answered

Probably: Plexus slim contains a set of ingredients that are unproven, may not have any effect, and do not have large pharmacologic effectiveness, so they are unlikely to interfere with the action of metformin.

Is it okay to take metformin if I don't get a fingerstick test?

Yea: Metformin will mot cause hypoglycemia, so a meter is not absolutely a must. However, a meter will help you and your doctor determine the effectiveness of your treatment.

A 31-year-old member asked:
Does metformin contain anything antifungal in it?

Dr. Luis Villaplana answered

Nope!: I've used metformin to treat several conditions, but not a fungal infection as a direct effect. But, if a poorly controlled diabetic gets a fungal infection and metformin is added to improve sugar control, it is improved control that helps cure the infection.

What are the side effects of metformin?

Dr. Andrew Oswari answered

GI symptoms: The most common side effect is stomach discomfort and/or diarrhea. These symptoms usually disappear in a week. There is also a chance of renal failure and you should have your kidney function checked through the blood to make sure there are no problems before you start.

A 47-year-old member asked:
Metformin side effects, how long do they last?
1 doctor answer • 2 doctors weighed in

Dr. Allen Seely answered
General Practice 31 years experience
MAYBE indefinitely: Metformin has G.I. Side effects including diarrhea and abdominal cramps. The symptoms may last as long as you are taking the medication. One solution is generic glucophage XR or er which is a long-acting medication with less side effects.
Many patients can not tolerate metformin at any dose but fortunately we have many diabetes meds --out there. Hope you are better soon!
