Not necessarily: Msg is a flavor enhancer which intensifies the flavors of food. Salt is a food additive for flavor as well as preservation and is a different chemical compound-nacl.

Not necessarily: MSG contains sodium but it is a flavor seasoning. Salt can be added as a separate ingredient -- so important to ask the chef
