Yes, poor control..: Of diabetes prior to op can increase complications of surgery so get control of sugars prior to operation to then get benefit of operation in decreasing medication need in treating diabetes.

Diabetes and bypass: Well, diabetes is a risk factor for having any type of operation. However, a patient with diabetes is the perfect candidate for a gastric bypass because this operation is the best at curing type 2 diabetes (nearly a 90% cure rate). So if i had diabetes, i wouldn't worry, i would get a bypass as soon as possible.
