Instability at the: C1-2 Joint. The first 2 cervical vertebrae. Various things can lead to this, including rheumatoid arthritis (RA) which leads to pannus formation or fibrovascular tissue which has a predilition for the C1-2 joint, and can erode the joint capsules leading to instability, especially in patients who do not take medications for RA. Also trauma and fractures, etc. ccan lead to instability of this joint.
