A member asked:

Can cheerleading cause injury and back pain in a teenager with spina bifida occulta?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Possibly: Spina bifida occulta is a congenital skeletal and therefore musculoskeletal abnormality. It is more a predisposing factor, meaning some people will have problems due to it while others will not. Cheerleading is an energetic sport and involves a lot of stress to the spine. One should remain active but try to find activities that do not aggravate or predispose to pain.
