Depends on parents: Sickle cell disease (ss) is inherited from your parents. Both parents must have at least one copy of the mutated beta-hemoglobin gene for the child to be affected. If both parents have ss, 100% chance of ss for child. If one parent ss and the other has sickle cell trait (one normal and one mutated gene), 50% chance of ss for child. If both parents have trait, 25% chance of ss in child.
