Yes: Both belong to herpes group of visuses which are dna viruses.Herpes simplex 1 mostly oral in about 85% of cases while herpes simplex 2 usually genital in about 85% of cases.Herpes simplex1 is thus mostly acquired orally but herpes simplex2 through genital sex.
