There are textbooks: Eyes can be affected by the usual things that can affect any other part of the body. So eyes can be infected, traumatized, have inherited problems, problems of aging and cancers. Unique to the eye are cataracts, macular degeneration, retinal detachment, glaucoma and refractive problems. There are many more less common problems. Each can be individually looked up for explanation.
