Increased size: Ventral hernias don't rupture to the outside world, the skin holds the abdominal contents in place. However, they can become very large and difficult to repair if the contents cannot be easily returned into the abdomen during the repair.

In general,: Ventral hernia would require surgical repair, if it causes symptoms such as pain, nausea/vomiting, or deformity. A lot depends on location and size, so consult a surgeon for specific recommendation in your case.

What happens if a ventral hernia ruptures?

Serious: It is very rare for a hernia to break through the skin or "rupture". More commonly, but still unlikely, the contents of the hernia (the stuff coming through the hole in the abdominal wall) can become stuck or incarcerated. In its worst form, this can cause gangrene and require emergency surgery to save your life. Again, thi is uncommon, but also unpredictable.

May end up surgery: Most of the time small ventral hernias do not need surgery, simple binder and weight reduction is enough, large hernias had risk of gettting incarcerated (getting stuck ) most likely by transverse colon will cause dangerous complications.
