PET-CT scan: If you are referring to a PET scan... A PET-CT scan can show metabolic activity (glucose uptake) and is a form of functional imaging rather than other radiologic imaging which shows only anatomy and structure. Increased metabolic activity on PET scans is nonspecific and can be seen in tumor, infection, or inflammation.
