ED = impotence: Erectile dysfunction (ed) is the new name for impotence, they mean exactly the same thing. Performance anxiety is one cause of ed, but there are many other possible causes, including medical diseases and medication side-effects. Also, performance anxiety isn't limited to sex. If you get nervous giving a speech, that's performance anxiety too.

Different: Erectile dysfunction is difficulty getting and/or maintaining an erection usually due to physical causes such as thyroid diease, high cholesterol, and hypertension. Performance anxiety does not have a physiological cause but is self-induced due to external factors causing stress during the sexual activity. This is usually an internalized conflict that must be overcome or will continue to cause ed.
