A member asked:

5 yr old, 105 temp. urine: trace of protein, moderate leu, and 29 wbc. culture neg. persistent fever, virus symptoms. can a virus cause wbc in urine?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Pediatrician ASAP: Yes, any inflammatory process whether infection or non-infectious entities may show wbcs in urine, but there may also be bacterial infection in the kidney not reflected by the results of urine cultures. A temperature of that magnitude in a 5 year old deserves a full and thorough evaluation by a board-certified pediatrician and do this quickly please. Good luck and hope she is better soon.
