Let's see: Asthma cough usually gets worse at night and thus you may have developed what we call a habitual cough. Consult a lung specialist to find a resolution.

A long time: Cough for six months should be checked by a lung doctor. It is playing the odds to have a cough for six months without having a work up for it. Good luck, better be safe.
