Well: You could gargle with a mixture of Benadryl (diphenhydramine) liquid and chloraseptic and maalox about equal parts. That's about the best i can think of over the counter.Be sure not to swallow! i know it hurts. Hope it helps!

Soft Palate: Nothing beats seeing a physician who can personally examine you. That is what i would recommend. Short of that you can try salt water rinses (teaspoon salt in glass of warm water) and antiseptic mouthwash or lozenges. Hopefully it's just a mild virus and will resolve on its own in a couple of days.
