?makes no sense: Dead tissue does not heal. Also it depends on the procedure done. It can b anything from revision of the nail on the ingrown side 2 removal of the nail ; nail bed; shortening of the distal phalanx ; suturing the plantar pad 2 the dorsal aspect of the toe.

Ingrown toenail: This condition itself can cause discomfort. It is critical to remove the portion of the nail that is causing irritation and stimulating "proud flesh "(pyogenic tissue). The procedure is to remove the spicule of nail that is causing the problem under local anesthesia and do do so with the least disruption of the nail unit.
