Perhaps you can help: If you find counseling helpful except for this, you might be able to fix this. Say that it seems like this is happening and that you'd prefer a different approach. You might start a good conversation and hear encouragement to talk more freely on your own about things important to you. Also, you can find another if this is not a good fit. Working well together is important and this might be a start.
