PND Syndrome: Post nasal drip syndrome can cause these type of symptoms as when lying flat, the mucus irritates the posterior pharyngeal area, and when you sit up, the area drains from gravity/postural changes, etc. Get evaluated by a dr, preferably an ENT and you will get properly diagnosed and treated for your chronic (4 year) condition. Best wishes.

PND: See an allergist and get tested to find out what you are allergic to . Environmental control, medication and possibly desensitization might be very helpful.
