A member asked:

What does it mean to have a narrow disk in your back?

Unclear: Narrow disc is not a diagnosis by itself. Odds are in a teenager that it is a variant of normal. In older patients an isolated "narrow disc" can be related to disc degeneration, which usually is part of the normal aging process.

Shortened : Typically a “narrow” disc refers to a disc that has substantially less height than normal. The two most common causes of this finding are a degenerative disc in which the disc space has collapsed somewhat it a segmental disc in which the disc has not fully formed due to a segmentation defect.
