pain in upper right abdominal? what is there?

RUQ anatomy: Anatomically, the right upper quadrant (RUQ) of the abdomen includes: liver, gallbladder, pancreatic head, bile ducts and ampulla, c-loop of the duodenum, stomach antrum and pylorus, the hepatic flexure of the colon. Don't forget the diaphragm and lower chest are pretty close by. The abdominal musculature, ribs, and skin can all contribute as well to localizing RUQ pain. An exam is appropriate.

Lots: Could be appendicitis, ovarian torsion (if you're a woman!), crohn's disease, diverticulitis, kidney stones, gas pains or more. Need to see a doc for a proper exam to narrow down the causes.

YOUR APPENDIX: Sits in that area. First thing to rule out would be acute appendicitis. If the pain seems to have traveled to there, a kidney stone is also a possibility, among many others. Please see your doctor asap.
