Absolutely: Heart attacks are, thankfully, exceedingly rare in teenagers but there are other important causes of chest pain in teenagers that er doctors are looking for. A short list includes: pneumothorax (collapsed lung), pleurisy, pericarditis, pneumonia, trauma, cholecystitis, ruptured spleen, esophagitis. And many more. A teen using Cocaine is still at risk for heart attack too, despite their age.

Yes: Chest pain is always treated seriously, especially as diabetes and obesity becomes a bigger problem in adolescents, along with the ever-present risk of drug abuse. Rarely does chest pain signify something serious in this age group but a proper history and physical examination will be done, followed by tests and labs if needed.
