Depends: That depends on what is causing your vomiting. Simple stomach viruses can cause vomiting and the feeling of nauseousness may persist for 24-48 hours. If the vomiting is caused by other conditions, it may be something else entirely. With persistent vomiting greater than 48 hours, dehydration becomes a risk in adults (much earlier for infants/elderly), and an exam is needed for DX and tx.

Stomach related or?: Vomiting reflex is controlled by 2 units in brain medulla--one receives nerve impulses from GI tract, the other is a chemical receptor. Both have nerve connections to not only GI tract (pharynx, mesenteric vessels, bile ducts) but also from brain corticobulbar areas that mediate smells, sights, ; taste. Maybe you have gastritis, but maybe your symptoms have little to do with GI tract. Get checked.

Gastritis: When the stomach is empty it's acidity increases. If there is a problem such as gastritis or ulcer symptoms will increase as the stomach gets more acidic. A common cause of this is an infection by a bacteria called h. Pilori. It is important to have this checked out as it is very treatable. There are several ways to diagnosis it and even more to treat it. See your pcp for starters.
