How can i prevent dehydration in my child that is infected with clostridium difficile?

Fluids and Pepto: Dehydration from any cause should be preventable with attention to hydration with a balanced solution of water with electrolytes. It has been shown that patents with diarrheal diseases recover faster when they return to a normal diet as soon as they can eat food without vomiting. You should avoid most antidiarrheal medications except for bismuth subsulfate (pepto) because it binds the c diff toxin.

ORS: -ensure c diff is treated properly (flagyl or vancocin); o/w replace stool losses with oral rehydration solution (like gatorade) clear liquids, broth / bouillon. Avoid lactose containing foods or heavy or fatty foods which may be difficult to digest or make stools worse.
