Confidentiality: You deserve and can expect the full confidentiality of your physician. Now, in the real world i would ask them specifically when you are with them. (you do have the right to ask for your parents to not be present.).

Be brave: This is a time when it's okay to take charge of your health. Your doctor should not talk about sexual issues in front of your family at age 17. Either tell your parents that you'd like to see the doctor by yourself as part of growing up. Make sure you learn your medical history before making this move. Also, talk to the doc about safer sex practices to avoid risky situations.
