Croupy cough: The most important thing is steam. Take him into the washroom and turn on the hot shower and let him breath in the hot steam. At night let him sleep with a vaporizer as well as elevating his mattress.Push fluids but not milk. Occasinally by taking him outside the cough will improve.

Croupy cough: Cough is affecting his sleep therefore it is a good idea to get him checked out. Croupy cough is caused by viruses. Cool mist humidifier helps. Sometimes croup can result in stridor (noisy breathing) from swelling of the upper respiratory tract.

Try humidifier: Keep his head end elevated, try a cool mist humidifier, saline nose drops--if all these do not help yes have him checked by his pediatrician.
