Sure: Anxiety over what? You didn't say which type of counselor, but assuming it is at least a masters level mental health counselor: learning the therapeutic skills and applying them to your own life/practicing them can definitely help. It's always best to be in treatment with someone else, however, as the healer isn't always the best at healing thyself.

Mental health: I would hope so. It is said that many psychiatrists and psychologists. Go into the profession to figure themselves out as much as to help others. That's not to say anything negative it just seems to be the fact. Self-study is very important in figuring these things out and formal study would be no different.
