Tear depth matters: Usually stitches are only needed for deep tears that go into the muscle or tears that don't stop bleeding. It's possible to have a skin tear that goes to the anus that doesn't need repair. Anything deeper may need a stitch, though unlikely. Stool softeners, always. Poop everyday, or at least every other day and smooth. Fiber matters.
