I was wondering what are the pros and cons of using your own palate donor tissue vs commercial alloderm material?

Tissue graft: If it is possible, you own tissue is a better graft than other tissue, human or synthetic. However, there will be donor site discomfort in your palate ; the procedure will take much longer to harvest the graft and repair the donor site!

Many: Pros of using your own tissue: 1)inexpensive 2)tissue compatibility, 3)preserve blood supply to graft by choosing certain technique cons of using your own tissue: 1) pain/morbidity from graft harvesting site 2)only limited amount of grafting tissue can be harvest, 3)sometimes poor quality of grafting tissue pros of using alloderm: 1)avoid donor site wound (pain, healing) 2)unlimited quantity.
