Painless vision loss: Classically, sudden onset of peripheral visual field defects that progress towards the central vision after having noted flashes and floaters suggest a retinal detachment. Flashes and floaters may indicate a retinal tear though most people with the symptoms have a normal aging change known as a posterior vitreous detachment. Central distortion usually suggest treatable macular disease
