Quite a few causes: Up to 50% of patients with psoriasis have pitting nails, but other diseases: reiter’s syndrome, some connective tissue disorders, sarcoidosis, pemphigus, alopecia areata, and incontinentia pigmenti. Also localized trauma such as cuticle-picking, dermatitis (e.g., atopic or chemical dermatitis) that disrupts orderly growth in that area also can cause pitting. Consult doc. Good luck.
