Clinical Diagnosis: Fatty tumor or lipoma gets diagnosed on clinical exam and palpation of the tumor and dies not need any imaging studies yes if you want you can have ir removed for cosmetic reasons or if you feel uncomfortable with it.It is a benign tumor.

Lipoma: If your doctor felt a mass and did not biopsy or order ct scan or ultrasound then it is probably small and most likely a fatty tumor called lipoma. These are usually followed and may never require anything more than observation. Sounds like a safe doctor. Removal only if grows or attached to rib. Continue to follow and i hope this helps.

Lipoma: If its a straightforward lipoma additional imaging isnt needed you should have it removed if its symptomatic.

Abnormal: Be sure! lipoma in the soft tissue over a rib is possible. But not usually attached to the rib. See thoracic surgeon, get studies and be sure. Rib tumors do exist and can be cured.
