Proper doses: Taking proper doses of anticholinergic medications should not affect cognitive function in younger patients. Some elderly patients and patients on certain other type medications can be affected.

Minimal concern: Correct. Amitriptylline has anticholinergic properties. It's been around for many years and is a very useful drug for a variety of medical problems and also relatively inexpensive. 25 mg is a low and well tolerated dose. Cognitive changes in the elderly a concern given age-related mental decline, other diseases, and the fact that they are often on other meds with anticholinergic effects- additive.
