Appears safe but...: Lysine is generally considered safe by most authorities. There are reports that high doses can cause gallstones and increase cholesterol in animals but there is not evidence it does so in humans- see http://healthyeating.Sfgate.Com/lysine-safety-5003.Html there is one report of a woman who developed kidney failure after taking 3000 mg/day for 5 years, but that does not prove lysine caused it!
