3weeks: Recommend 3 weeks of immobilization to avoid recurrence of a ganglion cyst after surgery. Then may require a period of time to regain normal range of motion. Some swelling may persist for up to 4 months.

Recovery time varies: Recover time will vary depending on many factors including age, general health of the patient, infection control, smoker or not, blood sugar control, the exact type of procedure, and post-operative and follow up care. Discuss it with your surgeon and get their opinion as to what they feel is a reasonable recovery time for you.

Wrist ganglions: In my practice the patient has a soft dressing for 1 week and they start mobilizing in the second week. Recovery from the volar ganglion surgery is faster than the dorsal wrist ganglion surgery. Your hand surgeon is the best person to give you detailed information about recovery specific to your condition.
