I'm scared of the pain a burst ear drum will feel like, how much worse does it get?

Dr. David Kam answered

Acute Otitis media: The good news for middle ear infection and perforation is that the pain is short lived. The pain will subside once pus in middle ear can drain. Take aspirin, Ibuprofen or tylenol (acetaminophen) for the pain. See a doctor to examine your ears. Ear canal infection is also very painful and can lasts days and weeks if not properly treated!
