A member asked:

Is it bad to be smoking before general anesthetic?

A doctor has provided 1 answer
Dr. Ionel Rad answered

Yes: Smoking increases the risk of respiratory complications (both if you receive anesthesia and if you do not). Quitting smoking for many weeks helps patients have less airway and respiratory complications. Even quitting for few days might be helpful.
