Tongue piercing: Tongue jewelry can't cause generalized gum recession, but it can both break teeth and possibly cause gum recession in the areas adjacent to the jewelry.

Gum/bone damage: Tongue piercings have been known to cause gum/bone loss which may be irreversible and may require surgical intervention. Can also cause tooth wear and fractures. Save-up, repairs can be costly.

Absolutely!: A tongue piercing more often causes a fractured molar, but can also cause gum recession. Either of these things can create significant problems. Make sure you have an excellent hygienist and dentist.
