Clenching: There is no appliance that im aware of that will help you to not clench your teeth. We do have night guards, that when the patient does clench, it delivers the forces of clenching equally with all teeth, or other appliances that take the destructive effects of the force from some muscles to others. You really need to see a dentist to have your clenching anylized and the appropriate appliancemade.

Individuality: There is no one "best" dental appliance for sleep grinding. I make different types of mouthpieces based upon my history and examination. Some patients just need a soft, thin mouthguard to wear at night, while others may need a hard acrylic one that they wear 24/7. Some come into my office with a handful of old appliances. Need to figure out what works and what did not.

A night guard: A night guard usually does not stop you from clenching, but it will protect your teeth from being damaged.

Night guard: Dr aronowitz is correct. Mouth guard will protect teeth from damage. Clenching may be due to stress, malocclusion, fractured/damaged teeth, para functional habit, skeletal imbalance, etc. Best choice would be to determine and eliminate cause.
