What are the benefits of robotic surgery?

Quicker recovery: Compared with open surgery the recovery is quicker. It takes longer to perform compared with simple laparoscopic surgery. And some specific complications can emerge from robotic surgery.

Quicker recovery: The procedure is done laparoscopically which is minimally invasive. Patient are able to go home in 12-24 hours after the surgery and in many times, return to work in 2 weeks. There is much less pain and much smaller scars than an open procedure. The case may last longer however.

More precision: With robotic surgery, the surgeon can use natural wrist and hand motions which are exactly replicated inside the patient with the robotic instruments. Visualization is improved with magnification and depth perception. This improved precision results in less blood loss, less tissue trauma, less pain, and better recovery for patients.

Thoracic view: There is limited comparative data in some procedures. However, robotics provides more precision and better visualization (3d & magnification). Many believe this provides added safety over surgery performed by traditional laparoscopic technique. In experienced and trained hands, robotic surgeries are safe. Minimally invasive procedures provide faster recovery to "open procedures".

Many benefits: Robotic surgery has allowed many more surgeons to offer a minimally invasive approach to their surgical patients. This is in part due to better resolution and maneuveribity that the instruments provide, but also, in part due to the degree of control and reproducible safe outcomes afforded by this type of technology.
