Bruise, muscle pull: Itching often comes as a part of the healing process related to "cascade" releases of chemicals in the injured area. The initial response is inflammatory cells. As these transition to scar building cells, chemicals that get released trigger mast cells to release a small amount of Histamine. This can produce itching in a big enough release. Any cut, bruise, torn muscle, will produce inflammation.
