How Premature?: Depends on how premature the baby was, the circumstances of the birth itself and how the infant progressed after birth. Prematurity does not always equate with a disability.

More likely : The more premature a baby is, the higher the risk for learning, behavior, or attention problems.

Yes: There is an increase in incidence of learning problems among prematurely born infants than full term infants. Fortunately there are services available to assist these children in school.

Sure: They can also be normal or bright.If their birth/NICU course is complicated we worry about outcome but most of the survivors do pretty well. My smallest survivor, 14 oz @ birth just graduated from the Honors program at Baylor a few years ago. Prepare for whatever outcome comes, but don't give up on these babies.
