A member asked:

How can someone someone be allergic to benadryl (diphenhydramine) if it's presents histamine release therefore shouldn't it prevent a reaction?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Benadryl (diphenhydramine): It is very unlikely for someone to develop an allergy to an antihistamine, but you may develop side effects to them. Benadryl (diphenhydramine) causes sedation and some people agitation. You do not mention the symptoms that you developed with benadryl (diphenhydramine).
