Besides infection, hemorrhage, and possible injury to adjacent organs (there are many organs and vital structures adjacent to duodenum and pancreas), some complications include pancreatic fistula, intestinal obstruction, liver failure, diabetes, malabsorption, progression of malignancy, and even perioperative death.
