Can you tell me what do ultrasound machines do?

Diagnostic Radiology 30 years experience
Ultrasound (U/S): Works similarly to sonar. Sound wave are sent through tissues and the changes in their waveforms are recorded by the transducer. Because sound travels at different speeds through different tissues (or not at all) we can recreate images of structures by measuring the changes in the return echo from the initial sound wave.
