Interbody Fusion: Removal of the interbody disc and replacement with a bone graft. This allows bony healing across the interspace between vertebral bodies. Often a fusion is augmented with metal hardware-screws or plates, to maximize the chance of fusion. Length of recovery is determined by site of fusion -cervical, thoracic, or lumbar, number of levels fused, as well as techniques used. Typical is 3-12 months.
