Spinal Stenosis: Spinal stenosis is usually associated with some pressure on the spinal cord causing pain in back radiating down the spine to the lower extremity all the way down to your foot and ankle.The answer is you can get sciatica pain due to spinal stenosis even if the absence of cord compression and it depends on the degree of narrowing or spinal stenosis.

Unlikely: Their are very few adult patients whose MRI of their lower spine is read as normal, actually only about 10%.. Having an "abnormality" on your MRI is normal. Findings on your MRI are commonly seen with patients who have no back or leg pain, so it is not reasonable to assume your pain is coming from your spine. If you also have tenderness in your back or buttock, muscles may be the cause of sciatica.

Possible: Depending on which nerves are getting compressed with the spinal canal narrowing it could cause the pain you are complaining about. See a Spine Specialist to determine what care you need.

Very bad sciatica pain on the left side but pain is worse on calf and ankle. MRI showed broad disc bulge L5/S1 with no obvious compression.
