TNF mediates IBD: Tumor necrosis factor (tnf) is a proinflammatory cytokine that is associated with inflammatory bowel disease (ulcerative colitis and crohn’s disease). Concentrations of tnf are elevated in the stool, mucosa, and blood of patients with ibd. Tnf inhibitors block the effects of tnf and have been shown to be effective in treating ibd, particularly those resistant to standard therapies.
