Would my baby have a cleft lip/pallet if i had one?

10%: If you have a cleft palate, there is a 14% chance that your baby will have one. However, if you have a syndrome in which there is a cleft palate the incidence may increase.

About 4% if only you: The recurrence risk (chance of having a baby with the same problem) is about 4% if there is no family history of facial clefting or other syndromes involving the head and neck. If there is a family history, the risk could be as high as 50%. Either way, it would be good to sit down and talk with a genetics counselor to get a proper estimate and advice.
